Happy Sunday Parents,
I hope you were able to take the two surprise snow days and enjoy them with your children. I am so thankful we were given those days for the kids to just be kids! We have all been working extra hard this year (teachers and parents included) and it was nice to get those days to just enjoy the snow and be together.
Friday we watched the Holiday Sing Along. It wasn't quite the same as being together at school participating, but it was fun nonetheless! Mr. Fuhrman and Mrs. Heverin did a beautiful job creating the Sing Along for us! The students and teachers really enjoyed continuing this tradition today!
Winter Movie
Tuesday we will watch the movie Frosty the Snowman after our morning meeting. We thought this would be a fun and special way to celebrate the season and our last day (before break) together. I have told the kids they are welcome to bring a cup of hot chocolate or a treat with them to snack on while we watch the movie "together". If you are alright with your child having a snack for the movie, please make sure to have that available for them at 9:15am Tuesday.
Student Spotlight
Does your child have work he/she is really proud of? Maybe they would like to show off how hard they are working at home, or want to show how they are demonstrating the 3Rs. Upload a picture or short video of his/her work to share with the whole school! Images and videos shared will be featured on the Student Spotlight segments on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the morning announcements. Students may not be featured right away depending on how many submissions have been made.
This Weeks Schedule
This week will be a short week due to Winter Break. Monday will be a normal asynchronous day and will follow our typical Monday schedule. Tuesday we will shake things up a bit. We will meet for our normal Morning Meeting followed by our Writing lesson. After that, we will watch Frosty the Snowman movie. The rest of the day, the students will follow their normal schedule and complete their "small group work" (RAZ Kids, Dreambox and Xtra Math) and working on their asynchronous assignments. There is no school or morning meetings the rest of the week!
Below is the focus of our lessons for when we return from Winter Break.
Focus Areas for the Coming Week:
- Writing: We are studying Biographies/ Nonfiction and are going to continue working on our Famous African American project. This covers many SOLs. We are chunking our way through it together.
- Math: We will continue our the Multiplication unit. **It would be beneficial for the students to have their multiplication facts memorized. Please be working on these at home to help them with this unit.**
- Virginia Studies: We will continue with Chapter 2 of Virginia Studies- Virginia's First Peoples. We will cover that the American Indians lived all over the state, The English Settlers and the three native languages spoken. The study guide went home several weeks ago. The test will be after break- date TBD.
