Weekly Update

 Hello Parents,

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break! We are going to hit the ground running tomorrow. I can’t believe it but we are down to our last 52 instructional days of this year and yet we have so much to cover! This is going to be a fun but busy week for your 4th graders! Please see my updates below in preparation for the week.

Plants:

As you know your child brought their plant home over break.  As I mentioned last month, we will continue this project so please have your child return their plant with them tomorrow. We will be taking some time this week to reflect on the care they provided them and compare any new growth to what they had before break.

Spring Party:

Thank you to Mrs. Mullinax, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Crawford for the amazing Spring Party we had before break. It was such a fun day and the students had such a wonderful time. Once again you have outdid yourselves!

Field Trip:

Tuesday is our field trip to Mount Vernon and Gunston Hall. Please remember that this is an extended day field trip so you will need to pick up your child at the school at 4:45pm. They need to bring a bagged lunch with them. If you need your child to purchase a bagged lunch from the cafeteria, please let me know by tomorrow (Monday) so I can put that order in. If I do not hear from you, it will be assumed you are sending lunch in with your child.

No School Friday:

Just a reminder that Friday, April 5th is a teacher workday due to the end of the 3rd quarter therefore there is no school.

 Focus Areas for Next Week:

  •  Reading: We continue talking about Historical Fiction. We will begin our book Number the Stars.

  • Math:  We will work on our Fractions unit.

  • Science: We will continue our unit on Plants and plant life cycles.

  • VA Studies: We will begin Chapter 6- Building a New Nation

I am looking forward to seeing your children tomorrow. Remind them to charge those Chromebooks and return those plants! It’s crazy to me that this year is wrapping up so quickly!

Weekly Update

 Hello Parents,

What a great week we had in Room 25! We have planted our seeds and officially begun observing them for any changes. News spread of our projects and we welcomed Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Lydic, Mrs. Adam’s a few big wigs from the county into our classroom to check out our hands on learning. To say they were impressed with the students would be an understatement! They got to observe the students researching their plant and taking notes on how to best care for it, how long it takes to germinate, and all the other important information we need for these little seedlings to grow strong!

Sub on Thursday:

I will be out on Thursday, March 21st. The sub already has the plans and is looking over them. Please remind your child to show the 3R’s when I am out. Our sub will be Mrs. Cohen.

Spring Party:

Our room moms have been hard at work planning our spring party which will take place on Friday, March 22nd. In order for your child to enjoy the treats at the party, I will need you to grant permission. Please fill out this permission slip.

 Focus Areas for Next Week:

  •  Reading: We continue talking about Historical Fiction. We will begin our book Number the Stars.

  • Math:  We will work on our Fractions unit.

  • Science: We will continue our unit on Plants and plant life cycles.

  • VA Studies: We will wrap up Chapter 5- The American Revolution. The test will be Tuesday March, 19th!

This weekend is sure to be a busy one for my family. Tomorrow I will be running in the DC Rock and Roll half marathon and then racing home to watch my son represent the DYS league in their All Star games. If all goes well he will play Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully in there somewhere I will find time to do some laundry and catch up with the rest of my life! 🤪

Weekly Update

 Hello Parents,

This was a very busy and educational week! We completed 3 of our FLE classes and learned quite a bit about our bodies! We also visited Mrs. Kaz’s seedlings and made some observations of the changes we are seeing. Next week is sure to be another busy but exciting week in 4th grade!

Family Life Education (FLE)

Our class is scheduled to have FLE again on Monday, March 11th. If you would like to opt your child out, please make sure to follow the directions on THIS FLE PARENT LETTER and opt out through Parentvue. If it is not noted in Parentvue, your child will receive the FLE lesson.

Sub on Thursday:

I will be out on Thursday, March 14th. The sub already has the plans and is looking over them. Please remind your child to show the 3R’s when I am out.

Planting Seeds:

To go along with our plant unit we will be planting seeds. My goal is to connect this activity to a variety of our 4th grade standards. We began the project today by holding a vote (social studies) to find our top 5 fruits and vegetables the class would like to plant. Next week I will reveal the results of the vote and we will create a graph (math) to showcase the outcome. Tuesday the students will plant the seeds and begin our observation journal. I would like to see these seedlings through the growing process, so I will send them home with their owners over spring break. If you are traveling for spring break please let me know and I can bring your child’s seed home with me. They will bring these back after spring break to observe/ chart the growth that occurred over the course of the week. The class is VERY excited about this activity!

Harlem Wizards Game:

Tomorrow I will be playing in the staff vs Harlem Wizards game at Freedom High School. If you are free tomorrow evening you should come out and watch Mrs. Barthelemy and I take on the Wizards. The game starts at 6:30pm and the doors open an hour before. You can purchase your tickets through this link. If you come out, please make sure to say hi!
