weekly Update

 Hi Parents!

What a busy week we have had! We are finally getting into the fun stuff and are enjoying the slower pace of things!

Tie Dye T-shirts

Thank you for the quick response for your child’s t-shirt size. We plan to tie dye them next Friday (weather permitting). We also have a parent volunteer who had graciously offered to come help with that task.

Tiger Rising Movie

We will watch the movie Tiger Rising next week. I have told the students they are welcome to bring in an extra snack on Friday to eat with that movie. The class is really looking forward to seeing this movie since we enjoyed the book!

June Theme Days:

As we near the end of the year, the fourth grade team wanted to have some fun to celebrate all our hard work! Each day for the month of June we will have a theme day. Below is a calendar of the days we have planned, however we are going to surprise the kids each day with what the next day will be. Please do not tell them. We are just giving you the heads up so you can be prepared and planned.

Each day our activities and lessons will revolve around the theme of that day.  There is very little you will need to do for this. However, if you want to have your child dress up to fit the day, that is encouraged but not necessary. We do have a 4th grade Amazon Wish list if you wish to donate anything from it to help make our theme days more exciting, but again it’s not required. If you donate off our wishlist, please have it shipped to the school, attention Kristen Rivera.

Below is a quick look ahead as to what the themes will be:

Thank you again for helping us make this a fun and exciting time for these students! They have all worked so hard and deserve to be celebrated! We appreciate you helping us keep this a secret!

End of the Year Party:

We will be having our End of the Year Party on Monday, June 13th. Parents are welcome to attend. I will need a couple of parents to plan and organize it.

Please reach out to me if you are interested in helping with this event.

Focus Areas for the Week:

  • Reading:  We will use the book Charlotte's Web, work on comprehension and end with watching both the animated and live version to compare and contrast the story.

  • Math:  We will begin our unit on perimeter and area.

  •  Science:   We will wrap up Oceans and begin our Planets Unit.

I hope you all have a wonderful and fun long weekend planned. Hopefully the weather will be nice and we can spend some time grilling outdoors.

Weekly Update

 Hi Parents!

How do we only have 17 days of school left?! We have finished all our SOLs and are looking forward to having some fun! Please read below for important information. There are two forms below that I need you to fill out.

Tie Dye T-shirts

Now that SOLs and the academics have all been covered, the 4th grade team thought it would be nice to have a little fun! First, we would like to have the entire grade level make tie dye t-shirts. The students can wear them on Field Day and then later we will all sign each other’s shirts as an end of year souvenir. In order to pull this off, we need you to please fill out THIS FORM to let us know what size t-shirt your child wears. Please let me know by Friday, May 27th.

We also need a parent volunteer from each class, 6- five gallon buckets and the dye. The link to our Amazon wish list for supplies is linked HERE  if you would like to donate something off it for us. You can ship it right to the school, attention Kristen Rivera.

If you are interested in volunteering to help the grade level dye those shirts, please reach out.

Tiger Rising Movie

The first book we read this year in our reading unit was Tiger Rising. The students really enjoyed this story and still talk about it today. Recently, it was just made into a live action film. I would love to watch this as a class. Since it is rated PG, I will need your permission to let your child watch it. Please fill out this permission slip to allow your child to enjoy this movie with us.

End of Year Activities:

Fourth grade will be having “theme days” for the month of June. This will be various activities and events to make the end of the year memorable and exciting. More information to come.

Focus Areas for the Week:

  • Reading:  We will practice writing and recalling information from stories we are reading. You can never get enough practice with Reading Comprehension! We will also wrap up the book Blood on the River

  • Math:  We will begin our unit on Geometry.

  •  Science:   We will continue our unit on Oceanography.

I hope you have a great weekend and stay cool! It’s supposed to be pretty hot! Once again, I will be out on the baseball field enjoying the weather!

Weeky Update

 Hi Parents!

Another busy week down! Seems like this year will be over before we know it! I have a couple of short reminders and updates to fill you in on.

SOL Letters for Students- Parent Homework

Please make sure you return the SOL letters I sent home last week if you haven’t already. They are due this upcoming week. Please refer to the previous message posted below if you need more information

I would like the students to begin their day with some encouragement from those who mean the most to them- You! (and their siblings, grandparents, or other loved ones!) I would like to surprise them with a letter from you on their desk the morning of each test. I sent home a sealed manila envelope today with a detailed letter explaining what I need you to do and two sheets of paper for you to write on, decorate, glue pictures or quotes on. I have included three since we have three SOLS (one for each test). I would like to have all the letters back to me SEALED in the envelope by Wednesday, May 4th, so I can make sure that every child will have something special to read that morning. Please remember this is a surprise!!!
