Hello Parents,

Wow! We made it through the first two days of 4th grade! Your children have made our first days of learning so much fun, and I am thrilled we get to spend our days together this year! Since we have only been in school for two days, I do not have much to write today. I did, however, want to let you know what an amazing bunch of kiddos I have in my class this year! They did so well transitioning into school and learning the routines. I hope you enjoyed the pictures and messages I sent this week through Remind. Isn't that app awesome?!?

Please Sign Up for My Remind!

If you haven't yet signed up for my Remind text messaging service, please do so by downloading the Remind app and joining my class.  After you download the Remind app, click "join a class" and enter my class code:  @krivera4th.  I send many messages and pictures via Remind.  Please don't miss out and please let me know if you have any questions. This is optional but a nice way to connect with me quickly!

Water Bottles:

Fourth graders are a thirsty bunch.  Please feel free to send a water bottle to school with your child each day.  Please send a reusable bottle.  Please do NOT send water bottles with twist off tops for classroom use...the kids have a very difficult time getting the caps on straight and those bottles typically spill.

MAP Testing

The MAP testing window has opened. Your child will take both the Reading and Math MAP Assessment. This week we will take the Reading one. This assessment is not graded but will provide me with a baseline of information on where your child is and what material I need to cover. Please make sure your child brings their ChromeBook to school charged each day.

The school no longer provides loaner devices for students who forget them.

Student Agendas

This year the students will be keeping track of their own test dates and homework assignments. I would suggest that they get a small student planner to make it easier for the students to track. If you are unable to purchase one, the students will still be able to track it using an agenda paper I will give them each Monday. These pages will then be kept in their homework folder. If you would like to purchase one you can buy them at Walmart, Target or Amazon. I am including the Amazon link here.

Specials Schedule:

I sent a paper copy of the Specials Schedule home with your child this week.  However, to recap, our Specials Schedule is as follows:

  • Monday:  Art

  • Tuesday:  Music/ Guidance (B weeks only!)

  • Wednesday:  PE/ Music

  • Thursday:  PE

  • Friday:  Library (A weeks only!) /PE

Focus Areas for the Coming Week:

  • Reading:  We will talk about how to use our classroom library, and procedures and expectations for Independent Reading.

  • Writing:  We will write a little about ourselves to get to know each other.

  • Math:  We will learn the routine for Math workshop and number talks

  • Social Studies:  We will continue building our classroom community as we explore the qualities of a good citizen in our school, our community, and our world.

Okay.  I think that's everything on my list, but I apologize in advance if I've forgotten something. Please let me know if you  have any questions, comments, or concerns.

I plan on spending this weekend getting my home and kids situated. All these long busy days at school have resulted in my home life getting ahead of me! I am sure I am not the only one in this boat. Enjoy the weekend!
