Weekly Update- Short Week

 Hi Parents!

Treasure Box

I am sure you have heard that we have a class treasure box! The students can earn a trip here by taking their time on their work, going above and beyond, or are caught showing the 3R’s by a teacher. However, our class treasure box is running low on goodies! If you have any small party favors or treasure box type goodies laying around, please consider donating them to our class treasure box. Most of the stuff in there I often get from The Dollar Store, Target Dollar Spot and Amazon, so it doesn’t have to be anything too elaborate. The kids are so grateful to just get to pick something!

New Supplies

It’s hard to believe, but we have made it to the halfway point in the year! Please talk to your child and see if they need any new supplies. We have gone through quite a bit of our supply stockpile. We recently had to have a conversation as a whole about being responsible for our own things like glue sticks, pencils and crayons. Many students need new scissors, crayons, and markers. Please speak to your child and see if they are in need of anything. If so, could you please send those in with your child on Monday. If you are unable to, please reach out to me and I will make arrangements to get whatever supplies your child needs.

Weekly Update

 Hi Parents!

What a crazy week it has been. The students did such a nice job though adjusting to the crazy schedule. It was difficult to go from a holiday, to a snow day, to MAP and WIDA testing and back into snow days but the students really pulled through!

We have finished the MAP tests and I am working on administering the DRA reading test if your child needs it. Just a reminder that not every student will be given the DRA.

Weekly Update!

 Hi Parents!

We finally made it through a full week of school! It has been nice to get back into our routine. Well as much as we could considering mid year testing has begun. We were also lucky enough to welcome a new student to our class on Friday. I was so proud of the class for doing a great job helping her settle in. What a great group of 4th graders I have here!

As I am sure you heard, for the past week the students have been building the original Jamestown Fort in Minecraft Education. I have never seen so much engagement and excitement over a project in my life! Their forts turned out wonderfully! I was impressed with the thought and detail they put into their settlement. Please ask your child about their settlement. They had the opportunity to present them to the class today and they were fabulous! I don’t want you to miss out on the chance to see their amazing creations!

MAP Testing

We completed the Math MAP on Thursday! WOO HOO! Reading was a bit more of a challenge to get in since the program was down on Wednesday when we attempted to take it. I did break each test up into two parts to see if that helped keep the kids focused and engaged. We completed the first half of the reading today, and will complete the second half on Tuesday so please keep those ChromeBooks charged!

Weekly Update

 Hi Parents!

What a treat these snow days have been! I don’t have too much new news since we didn’t quite get through everything we needed to last week. Next week we will be beginning division and starting our mid year testing.

MAP Testing

We will be taking our Reading and Math MAP assessments next week. I have scheduled the reading for Wednesday, January 12th during our reading block and the math one on Thursday, January 13th during the Math block. Please make sure your child comes to school each day with their ChromeBook fully charged. I cannot always guarantee that a loaner is available and many times the loans lack some of the features and programs we use since they are much older.

Focus Areas for the Week After Break:

  • Reading:  Nonfiction- We will put our knowledge of non fiction to use, as we begin our first research project on Weather. The students will research, write, review and create a presentation on their selected Extreme Weather topic.

  • Math:  We will begin division. Please make sure your child is memorizing their multiplication facts. Division can be very challenging and frustrating for the students if they do not know their multiplication facts.

Quarantine Work Procedures

 Hi Parents!

Happy snow day! What a beautiful sight to wake up to this morning! With all of the COVID craziness going on, I wanted to be proactive and let you know what my plan is in the event that your child gets sick or needs to be quarantined. This information may not pertain to your child (hopefully ever) but I wanted to lay out my plan to the class  in one large swoop.

As you know, if your child is quarantined, we will be using Schoology to post their assignments. Your child should be very familiar with how to navigate this program because we use it in class. If your child meets with Mrs. Kaz or Mrs. Anderson, please make sure that they also check their pages and folders for additional assignments from those classes. The assignments listed on my page are solely just the assignments they need to complete for me. They can access Mrs. Kaz’s page through the link on mine. This link will take them directly to Mrs. Kaz’s Schoology page.

Since the elementary schools are not teaching concurrently, your child will be unable to join us through Google Meet. However, they should check my Schoology page each morning. Once they are in my Schoology page, they should click on the ‘Quarantine’ folder. Inside there, I am posting a calendar that looks like the example below that will list their daily assignments. Your child should complete any assignments listed for the day/ days they are out.

Additionally, as mentioned, if they work with Mrs. Kaz or Mrs. Anderson, they should click on their links for any assignments from those teachers.

When the calendar states writing, I ask that they re-read their work and edit it. We have spoken about the importance of this. Please have them make sure they have complete sentences, punctuation, and that their sentences make sense. This is a very important skill!

I will be available through email and Schoology each day when school is in session. As the students know, I am not always near my email, but will do my best to check my email more frequently when there are students out quarantining so I can answer their

questions quickly.

I know this information may not pertain to you at this time, but I wanted to assure you that I had a plan and that I would do my best to engage and teach your child even in these uncertain times.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to seeing everyone in school this week and promise to do my best to keep us all healthy and happy!

Enjoy this beautiful snow day with your sweet children! They truly are a gift!
