Weekly Update

 Hi Parents!

Happy Friday! I hope everyone had a wonderful week. Today the kids enjoyed electronics/ stuffed animal day for filling up our Golden Paw chart! I am so proud of them. We are on our 4th chart and we have already filled more than half of it up!

Dreambox Lessons

Each morning upon arrival your child is supposed to complete two DreamBox lessons each day. This is a county requirement. I have woven it into our morning work to help get the lessons out of the way early. Each lesson should take the students roughly 5-10 minutes to complete. I have noticed on Tuesday that many students only had 1 or 2 lessons completed and have been logged in for well over 150 minutes. What that tells me, is that many students are logging in and not completing their lessons. They must be opening the application and going to other tabs. I have spoken to the class as a whole about this. This is part of their effort and work completion grade.

ChromeBook Usage

This week we have had many issues with students using their ChromeBooks appropriately during lessons. We have done many internet safety lessons. If you could reiterate the importance of using their time wisely and not playing games during lessons I would greatly appreciate it. If you could also, check and clear your child’s history that would be helpful! Thank you so much for your help!

Might Husky Program

Please see the message from Mrs. Smith below about the Mighty Husky Program.

The sign up link for this program is posted on Hutchinson’s PTA page. I will include it here for you as well.

Hutchison’s Mighty Husky Program is back! The purpose of the Mighty Husky program is to provide positive role models for our students.  Any adult family member of a child at HFES may volunteer to be a Mighty Husky.

This year, our Mighty Huskies will spend about four hours at Hutchison Farm interacting with our staff and students. Daily activities could include greeting students as they arrive at school, helping out in your child’s classroom, monitoring the Husky CafĂ©, and assisting students in the library. Mighty Huskies are also given the task of awarding students “Pawesome Awards” for outstanding Husky Pride behavior.

Treasure Box

I am sure you have heard that we have a class treasure box! The students can earn a trip here by taking their time on their work, going above and beyond, or are caught showing the 3R’s by a teacher. However, our class treasure box is running low on goodies! If you have any small party favors or treasure box type goodies laying around, please consider donating them to our class treasure box. Most of the stuff in there I often get from The Dollar Store, Target Dollar Spot and Amazon, so it doesn’t have to be anything too elaborate. The kids are so grateful to just get to pick something!

Focus Areas for the Week After Break:

  • Reading:  We will begin researching and writing a biography on a Famous African American.

  • Math:  We will continue with our unit on Factors and Multiples. The test will be on or about Thursday, March 3rd.

  •  VA Studies:  Continue Chapter 5- The Revolutionary War. The test will be on or about Wednesday, March 16th.

Doesn’t look like there is any rain in the forecast for the weekend, so hopefully you have some nice plans. I plan to take my daughter out for some much needed girl time, watch my son's basketball game and do a few odds and ends around my house that I keep putting off.

I hope you have a great weekend and as always, I welcome your questions, comments, and feedback.

Weekly Update (A Little Late!)

 Hi Parents!

Happy Tuesday! Sorry for the late post. I had scheduled this to post while I was away, but for some reason it didn’t. Anyway, I have just a couple updates for you below.

Homework folders and Agendas

Hopefully by now you have seen your child’s new homework folder. I have given them a safe place to organize and keep their homework, papers and study guides. In that folder, you will find a paper where they are to write their assignments each day, if they don’t have an actual agenda. I am hoping this will make the students more accountable for their due dates, and assignments. This is a skill they will need for years to come.

Study Guides

This week your child will bring home a study guide for Chapter 5 of VA Studies- The Revolutionary War and the study guide for our Factors and Multiples unit. Please check their homework folder for these. The VA studies one came home today. The math one will come home tomorrow (Wednesday). The test dates are written at the top of each study guide.

Electronics/ Stuffed Animal Day

Recently our class filled our golden paw chart for being AMAZING! We spun the wheel and won stuffed animal/ electronics day! I have blocked out some time on Friday afternoon to let the class redeem this reward. They may bring in a stuffed animal and/or an electronic device to play. I ask that they do not bring cell phones, as those are not permitted as approved electronics. A few ideas include ipads and portable games. Your child is responsible for whatever electronics they bring in. If you do not have an electronic device that you want your child to bring in, they are welcome to play on their ChromeBooks one of the many LCPS approved games. Please let me know if you have any questions about this reward.

Weekly Update- Important Valentine News

 Hi Parents!

What a week it’s been! I am so pleased to say that we have wrapped up our unit on Multiplication and Division! I was so pleased with how the students did on the test! We will build on those skills as we move into factors and multiples next week.

Sub next Friday

I wanted to give you a heads up that I will be taking a personal day on Friday, February 18th. I am going to take advantage of the long weekend and head to Las Vegas. Mrs. Combs will be the sub and the students already know her well! I will let the students know this week that I will be out.

Valentine’s Day

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Monday, February 14th. We will take the afternoon to pass out our valentines, watch a Valentine’s show and do some fun Valentine’s activities. If your student chooses to participate in the Valentine exchange, please make sure that they bring in a valentine for everyone. We will  make Valentine bags to put them in, but if your child wants to bring in a box or something from home to use, that is fine. I have sent a class list home with your child on Wednesday.

Treasure Box

I am sure you have heard that we have a class treasure box! The students can earn a trip here by taking their time on their work, going above and beyond, or are caught showing the 3R’s by a teacher. The kids are so grateful to just get to pick something!

New Supplies

It’s hard to believe, but we have made it to the halfway point in the year! Please talk to your child and see if they need any new supplies. We have gone through quite a bit of our supply stockpile. We recently had to have a conversation as a whole about being responsible for our own things like glue sticks, pencils and crayons. Many students need new scissors, crayons, and markers. Please speak to your child and see if they are in need of anything. If so, could you please send those in with your child on Monday. If you are unable to, please reach out to me and I will make arrangements to get whatever supplies your child needs.
