Hello Parents!

Hope you found some time to relax and unwind this weekend. The week ahead is sure to be busy since it will be our first full week of school since the year started! I have just a couple updates and reminders below for the coming week.

Charging Chrome Books:

Please make sure your child is coming to school each day with their Chrome Book charged. Unfortunately due to space issues we cannot let everyone charge them at school. If they come to school with it not charged they are offered a loaner computer. Those ones are not as nice and the students don't like to use them. We have begun our math and literacy stations and a few of the stations use the computers. I have reminded the students each day to charge their computers at home, but many are still coming in with their computers dead. If you could assist me with this, I would appreciate it.

Puzzlemania Forms:

I sent a Puzzlemania form home last week. Please sign and return it if you haven't already. Even if you are not interested in getting a subscription to the magazine, we get credit for returning them and they send stickers and goodies to the class. Just mark 'no' on the sheet and sign it. Your child also earns a Pawsome award for returning it to me. I would like to send the forms off on October 1st. So please return those this week if you haven't already.

Picture Day:

On Friday, I sent home the picture day forms. Please check your child's Take Home Folder for those. Our class is scheduled to have our picture taken on Thursday, September 23rd.

Focus Areas for the Coming Week:

  • Reading:  We have begun our first Reader's Workshop Unit.
  • Math:  We will continue to work on place value and knowing the values of numbers through the millions.

  • Virginia Studies:  We will wrap up our first chapter in VA Studies on the 5 regions. The students will have a test on chapter 1 this Friday, September 24th. Please make sure they are using that study guide that went home a couple of weeks ago to prepare for the test.

Thank you for reading the updates. Reach out anytime with questions, comments and concerns. Have a great week!

Hi Parents!

Short weeks sometimes feel like long weeks, but this week flew by.  I think the kids are settling into the year.  On the whole, I am quite pleased with how quickly they're picking up on classroom routines and procedures.  Staying focused during the afternoon has been a bit difficult, but I am hopeful that as the kids build stamina for a full school day, they will have an easier time staying on task.

MAP Testing

As you know, the MAP testing window has opened. Your child will take both the Reading and Math MAP Assessment. This week we will take the Reading one. This assessment is not graded but will provide me with a baseline of information on where your child is and what material I need to cover. Please make sure your child brings their Chrome Books to school charged each day. If you are new to the county, I have put in a ticket to get your child a device. I am hoping they will all have their devices by the end of the week.

Pencil Box Needed

We realized this week that left off of our 4th grade supply list was a pencil box (or pouch) and crayons. Having our drawers across the room make it difficult for us to get to our pencils, glue and scissors easily. I am asking for each student to bring in a pencil box or pouch to keep on their desk. This will allow for easier access to their supplies. Some of the students also showed interest in crayons. They are welcome to bring a box of tho0se as well. If you need help getting any of these materials, please let me know and I would be happy to help.

Focus Areas for the Coming Week:

  • Reading:  We will walk through the different Literacy Stations that we will participate in and learn the procedures and expectations.
  • Math:  We will continue to introduce math workshop along with the math stations the students will be visiting in workshop. They will also continue to problem solve our Number Talk of the day!

  • Virginia Studies:  We will continue learning about the five regions of Virginia. A study guide for this first chapter will come home this week.

Thank you again for your support and help as we continue to adjust to 4th grade. I hope you were able to find time to relax and unwind with your family! As always, I welcome any questions and concerns.
