Weekly Update

 Hello Parents,

How are we down to our final two weeks together?! I cannot believe the amount of growth I have seen in your children. This year has been challenging at times with 30 students, but your children made the best of it! They are extraordinary young adults and made coming into school this year easy for me! I am looking forward to a fun filled last 10 days!

End of Year Activities:

Fourth grade will be having “theme days” for the month of June. There will be various activities and events to make the end of the year memorable and exciting. Please be sure to read the email I sent on May 17th for more information! Thank you everyone for donating to our wishlist! We have received everything!

End the the Year Party:

Mrs. Jones is at work planning our end of the year Hollywood themed party. She has put together a permission slip for you to sign to give your child permission to eat the food that will be served at the party. Mrs. Jones will be serving cheese pizza from Dominos and cupcakes from Giant. If you do not fill out the permission slip, your child will be able to participate in the party, but will not be able to eat any of the food. If you would rather provide your child a lunch or have them purchase a school lunch, they can do that instead. Here is the permission slip for you to fill out:

End of Year Party Food Permission slip!

June Days:

This coming week begins the fun and exciting events of our June days! We will reveal each afternoon with the class what the next day's special activity is. As a reminder this is a surprise so please do not tell your child! If you did tell your child, please remind them not to ruin the surprise for the others. Unfortunately, I have had to have this conversation with several students already. The element of surprise is part of the fun!

Capstone Student:

This Monday, June 3rd is our last day with our Capstone Student Ms. Balaji. The class has enjoyed working with her and having her as a part of our class family! Ms. Balaji will be attending Virginia Tech this Fall. I have invited the students to make cards and notes for her as a way to show our appreciation. If your child would like to make her a card or letter, please make sure they bring that with them on Monday.

The Duck Challenge:

We are earning our ducks and the class is loving the challenge!

Focus Areas for Next Week:

  •  Writing: We will wrap up poetry.

  • Math:  We will begin our Geometry Unit.

  • VA Studies: We will continue quickly working through the final chapter,  Chapter 8- Reconstruction!

I hope you are able to enjoy your weekend and get some much needed time with your child! I will be on the ball field and trying to find some time to take my kiddos to the pool!

Weekly Update

 Hello Parents,

We have officially completed our SOLs for the year! The students are such troopers! I know how long and tiring those tests can be and I am so extremely proud of them! This has been such a wonderful year of growth and the scores are reflecting that! You should be so proud of them!

She will be putting out a food permission slip shortly.

Stuffed Animal Day:

We have filled our Golden Paw Chart! We will have stuffed animal day on Wednesday, May 29th when we watch the movie Holes. If you haven’t signed the permission slip for the movie by Wednesday, your child will not be able to participate in the viewing. They may still have stuffed animal day!

Capstone Student:

Ms. Balaji, our capstone student from Freedom HS has been in this week. She has done an amazing job helping me teach and getting to know the class. The students are really enjoying her!

Educational Leadership Team:

Ms. Hurley, our school counselor, has presented to all 4th graders about the ELT (Educational Leadership Team) positions and has shown students how to and where to apply for positions.

ELT is Hutchison Farm’s Educational Leadership Team.

The purpose of the team is to help build a positive school community.

It is also an opportunity for students in 5th grade to develop leadership and interpersonal skills.

It's important that you review the slide show (located in schoology) with your student and encourage them to apply for an ELT position if they are interested. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Stanley or Ms. Hurley and they would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Duck Challenge:

Next week the 4th grade classes will compete in a Duck Challenge. As you can imagine, trying to contain order and excitement these last few weeks of school is challenging, even without having 30 students in the class! To help maintain order and structure, we have decided to host a challenge called “Get Your Ducks in a Row” (ha! I hope I can keep them in a row until the 14th 🤣)

On Tuesday, we will show the students the mini ducks our class can earn by modeling good behavior, working hard and competing assignments. We will compete with the other 4th grade classes to see who will win the duck challenge. You do not need to tell your children about it, as I will inform them on Tuesday. I just wanted you to be aware of it so if your child starts talking about it you knew what they were talking about.

 Focus Areas for Next Week:

  •  Writing: We continue to write Poetry.

  • Math:  We will work on the Decimals unit.

  • VA Studies: We will review chapter 7 - Civil War. The test is on Wednesday, May 29th, then begin Chapter 8- Reconstruction

Thank you all for your support through the testing season. I am looking forward to an exciting last few weeks of school. Enjoy your long weekend and I will see your sweet children on Tuesday!

Weekly Update

 Hello Parents,

Thank you to everyone who helped make Teacher Appreciation Week so wonderful! I felt so loved and appreciated by all of your thoughtful gifts, cards and treats. I am so blessed to have a job that I love! Spending my days with your children is the absolute best!

SOL Pass:

Please make sure your child is completing their SOL Pass tests each night that it is assigned. The days they will do it are listed in their agenda when I assign it. Please make sure you verify your child’s score before you initial their log. This is part of their homework effort grade!

Your child has access to all the released tests back to 2001 in some cases. These are a perfect way to prepare for all 3 SOLs. The password to access them is husky. Please make sure you open the website and not attempt to do it while still in Schoology. It doesn’t always work that way. Your child will know how to do this

SOL Dates:

Our SOLs will begin this coming week. Please make sure your child brings their computer to school charged for the tests.

Reading SOL- Tuesday, May 7th
