 Good Afternoon Parents!

Mr. Fazzini came into our classroom Friday and taught us the third lesson to his Character Traits Trilogy. His lesson was a great segway into our SOL review which we will be starting after Spring Break. It has been a pleasure collaborating with him this year on so many of our Reading/ Writing lessons! The students have really enjoyed having him in our classroom.

Weekly Update

 Happy Friday!

I have a busy weekend of sports starting tonight at 6:30pm, so I wanted to get my blog posted early. We enjoyed a fun week of learning. We explored the Lego Spike bins which the students were able to build their own creation and code it to actually move! Then today Mr. Fazzini came in and did a follow up lesson with us on character traits in preparation for the upcoming reading SOLs. It was a very busy yet fun and educational week!

Mileage Club

If your child is interested in joining Mileage Club before school, please make sure to sign and return the permission slip next week. The slip is in your child’s homework folder today!

Family Life Education (FLE)

As you have seen from the letter that went home earlier this week, our class is scheduled to have FLE on March 7th, 9th, 14th and 16th. If you would like to opt your child out, please make sure to follow the directions on the flier and opt out through Parentvue. If it is not noted in Parentvue, your child will receive the FLE lesson.

Fraction Unit Update

We are steadily moving through our fractions unit. This is a very long and in depth unit. We have finally hit the halfway point in it. We still have to cover how to add, subtract and multiply fractions with both like and unlike denominators. I looked ahead a bit this week and am tentatively planning to test at the end of the month. I will send out an exact date as it gets closer, but as of now I am shooting for the end of the week that last week of March. The first study guide went home a couple of weeks ago. The students can turn it in once they complete the questions. The second study guide will cover the second half of our unit and will go home in a couple of weeks.  They are welcome to turn them in anytime before the test.

Focus Areas for the Coming Week:

  • Reading:  We will continue with our study of  Historical Fiction using the book Number the Stars and Blood on the River.

  • Math:  We will continue working on fractions. We will practice adding fractions with unlike denominators.

  • VA Studies:  We will begin Chapter 6- A New Nation

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to a great week!
