Weekly Update

Hi Parents!

We wrapped up our biography paragraphs, timelines and Bio Pennants! They are soooo great! I can’t wait to show you! I am so impressed with how well the students did with going through the entire writing process.

Family Life Education (FLE)

Fourth grade will begin FLE on Tuesday, March 29th. The course will consist of 3 classes. Boys and girls will be separated during the classes. Details are outlined in the parent letter that went home earlier this week. I am also linking the letter here for you.

ChromeBook Charging

Please make sure your child is coming to school each day with their ChromeBook charged. The loners are not in the greatest shape and do not have all the required software and programs we need since they are so old.

Might Husky Program

Please see the message from Mrs. Smith below about the Mighty Husky Program.

The sign up link for this program is posted on Hutchinson’s PTA page. I will include it here for you as well.

Hutchison’s Mighty Husky Program is back! The purpose of the Mighty Husky program is to provide positive role models for our students.  Any adult family member of a child at HFES may volunteer to be a Mighty Husky.

This year, our Mighty Huskies will spend about four hours at Hutchison Farm interacting with our staff and students. Daily activities could include greeting students as they arrive at school, helping out in your child’s classroom, monitoring the Husky Café, and assisting students in the library. Mighty Huskies are also given the task of awarding students “Pawesome Awards” for outstanding Husky Pride behavior.

Focus Areas for the Week After Break:

  • Reading:  We will begin our Historical Fiction unit and read Number the Stars by Lois Lowry. I will be reading this one chapter at a time to the class. If your student would like to bring in their own copy to read and follow along they are welcome to. Sometimes reading and following along helps keep them more focused and engaged. You can buy a copy from Amazon here or rent one from the public library.

  • Math:  We will continue working on fractions

  •  VA Studies:  We will begin Chapter 6- Building a New Nation

I hope you have a great weekend and as always, I welcome your questions, comments, and feedback.

Weekly Update

 Hi Parents!

I hope your weekend is going well! Mine has been full of errands and sports. Please take a few minutes to read my newest updates below!

No School Monday

Just a quick reminder that there is no school on Monday, March 7th. This is a staff development day. Enjoy your long weekend!

Sub on Friday

I just wanted to give you a heads up that I will be out on Friday, March 11th. My son is having surgery and I want to be there (as any mother would). I do not know who my sub is at this time, but I want the kids to be aware of my absence. I will let them know this week so they are not surprised when they arrive on Friday morning.

Math Resources

Hard to believe that we are about two months away from taking the SOLS. Many of the students rely heavily on their multiplication chart, double digit multiplication step chart, division step chart and the math term posters in the classroom. These resources are often used to help them complete their class work as well as their tests. During the SOLs all resources on the wall must be removed and they will not be able to use these charts. I am encouraging your children to memorize their facts as well as the steps beforehand. I do not want them to panic or struggle when they must test without them.

Treasure Box

I am sure you have heard that we have a class treasure box! The students can earn a trip here by taking their time on their work, going above and beyond, or are caught showing the 3R’s by a teacher. However, our class treasure box is running low on goodies! If you have any small party favors or treasure box type goodies laying around, please consider donating them to our class treasure box. Most of the stuff in there I often get from The Dollar Store, Target Dollar Spot and Amazon, so it doesn’t have to be anything too elaborate. The kids are so grateful to just get to pick something!

Kindness Spirit Week

As you have seen in Mrs. Smith’s Husky Update, we will be celebrating Kindness Week next week. To help celebrate we will be participating in spirit days. The schedule of events is below!

Focus Areas for the Week Ahead:

  • Reading:  We will continue researching and writing a biography on a Famous African American. Ask your child who they are researching and what they have learned! 🙂

  • Math:  We will begin with our unit on Fractions.

  •  VA Studies:  Continue Chapter 5- The Revolutionary War. The test will be on or about Wednesday, March 16th.

I hope you have a great weekend and as always, I welcome your questions, comments, and feedback.
