Weekly Update

 Hello Parents,

We have officially completed our SOLs for the year! The students are such troopers! I know how long and tiring those tests can be and I am so extremely proud of them! This has been such a wonderful year of growth and the scores are reflecting that! You should be so proud of them!

End of Year Activities:

Fourth grade will be having “theme days” for the month of June. There will be various activities and events to make the end of the year memorable and exciting. Please be sure to read the email I sent on May 17th for more information! Thank you everyone for donating to our wishlist! We have received everything!

End the the Year Party:

Mrs. Jones is at work planning our end of the year Hollywood themed party. She will be putting out a food permission slip shortly.

Stuffed Animal Day:

We have filled our Golden Paw Chart! We will have stuffed animal day on Wednesday, May 29th when we watch the movie Holes. If you haven’t signed the permission slip for the movie by Wednesday, your child will not be able to participate in the viewing. They may still have stuffed animal day!

Capstone Student:

Ms. Balaji, our capstone student from Freedom HS has been in this week. She has done an amazing job helping me teach and getting to know the class. The students are really enjoying her!

Educational Leadership Team:

Ms. Hurley, our school counselor, has presented to all 4th graders about the ELT (Educational Leadership Team) positions and has shown students how to and where to apply for positions.

ELT is Hutchison Farm’s Educational Leadership Team.

The purpose of the team is to help build a positive school community.

It is also an opportunity for students in 5th grade to develop leadership and interpersonal skills.

It's important that you review the slide show (located in schoology) with your student and encourage them to apply for an ELT position if they are interested. If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Stanley or Ms. Hurley and they would be happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Duck Challenge:

Next week the 4th grade classes will compete in a Duck Challenge. As you can imagine, trying to contain order and excitement these last few weeks of school is challenging, even without having 30 students in the class! To help maintain order and structure, we have decided to host a challenge called “Get Your Ducks in a Row” (ha! I hope I can keep them in a row until the 14th 🤣)

On Tuesday, we will show the students the mini ducks our class can earn by modeling good behavior, working hard and competing assignments. We will compete with the other 4th grade classes to see who will win the duck challenge. You do not need to tell your children about it, as I will inform them on Tuesday. I just wanted you to be aware of it so if your child starts talking about it you knew what they were talking about.

 Focus Areas for Next Week:

  •  Writing: We continue to write Poetry.

  • Math:  We will work on the Decimals unit.

  • VA Studies: We will review chapter 7 - Civil War. The test is on Wednesday, May 29th, then begin Chapter 8- Reconstruction

Thank you all for your support through the testing season. I am looking forward to an exciting last few weeks of school. Enjoy your long weekend and I will see your sweet children on Tuesday!
