Happy Friday Parents!
What a week it was! First of all, thank you so much for making me feel so special during Teacher Appreciation Week. The letters, gift cards, treats and gifts were so appreciated! Thank you for thinking of me and my amazing co teachers. It meant so much, especially this year, when things have been so hard.
Congratulations to the kiddos! The students did a wonderful job taking their first SOL! I was so impressed with how well the students handled the stress. They took their time and many used their scratch paper to help roadmap the stories to make sure they had a clear understanding of what they read. Please read below for a few updates, reminders and a quick look ahead.
Kindness
Recently many of the students in our class have formed "clubs". Often times, we have received reports from students that only certain people can be a part of the club and this is causing a lot of hurt feelings. We spent quite a bit of time this week talking about kindness and including everyone. If you could help us out by speaking to your child about the importance of including everyone I would greatly appreciate it. You are the most influential person in your child's life so your words can and will make all the difference. Thank you for your partnership!
Math MAP Test
We will take our final MAP test of the year on Friday, May 21st. Please make sure their Chromebooks are charged and ready!
SOL Testing
As a reminder, we will take the Math SOL on Wednesday, May 19th. Please make sure your child comes well rested and has a good breakfast the morning of. When the students finish their test they are supposed to read quietly. If you could please send in your child's Chromebook charger and a book to read! They will be unable to use RAZ Kids or Epic on the computer after the test. Thank you so much for the SOL notes you wrote to your children. They were so surprised and excited to receive them. I also told the students they were welcome to bring a couple of mints to keep in their pocket during the test.
Focus Areas for the Coming Week:
- Writing: We will do some writing to cover a few remaining standards and some written responses to a few read alouds.
- Math: We will move into decimals. The students will learn the place value of decimals and will add and subtract them.
- Social Studies: Begin Chapter 6 - Building a New Nation: Writing the Constitution
