Weekly Update

Hello Parents!

Phew! We made it through out first week of everyone being back 4 days. I am not sure who is more exhausted, the teachers or the students!

I couldn't have gotten through this week without the help of my amazing co teachers. Mrs. Assadi, Mrs. Gumbel, Ms. Higgins and Mrs. Kaz really stepped up to the plate this week. They were not only a tremendous help to me, but to your children as well. They used quite a bit of their breaks and lunch time this week helping me to make sure the students were adjusting and comfortable in each place before we left. Your children and I are very lucky to have them in our room this year!

MAP Testing

Yay! One down and one to go! We completed the Reading MAP test this week. The kids were troopers! The Math test is scheduled for May 4th. If anything comes up and changes, I will let you know. Once again, please make sure the students come well rested and have a good breakfast the morning of the tests.

SOL Testing

This year 4th graders will only take the Math and Reading SOL. They are not going to have to take the Virginia Studies SOL. We are currently working on the Performance Assessment that will be in place of the Virginia Studies SOL. We have two to do and we are currently working on our first one. Below are the dates for the other two SOLs. Please note these dates. The dates for our SOLs are as follows...

Reading - Thursday, May 6th

Math- Wednesday, May 19th

Focus Areas for the Coming Week:

  • Reading:  We will continue preparing for the Reading SOL and learning different test taking strategies that can help them when taking any test.
  • Math:  We will move on to Multiples and Factors. We will be able to list the multiples of a given number and find its greatest and least common factor.
  • Social Studies:  We will wrap up our  Performance Assessment for VA Studies- From Agriculture to High Tech and begin Chapter 5.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and find time to relax with your sweet children. This week was quite an adjustment and they did so well! As always, please reach out anytime you have questions, comments or concerns. 😁
