Weekly Update

Happy Friday Parents,

We have finally made it to the end of  both hybrid and distance learning! It's so hard to believe that we will welcome the entire class in school on Tuesday together. Hopefully this is our last "first day" of school this year!

Monday Packets

I will continue to send weekly packets home for asynchronous Monday's. Going forward, the students will bring their packets home Friday in their Homework folder and will complete it on Mondays after our Morning Meetings. They should do the entire packet on Monday. The assignments in the packet should take them 60-90 minutes per county guidelines. They will need to return the packets upon arrival on Tuesday morning.

Spirit Week

Please show your school spirit by participating in the upcoming PTA Spirit Week. Kick off our PTA Spirit Week with a refreshing Hawaiian shaved ice from Kona Ice. Join us at Meadows Pool (the one right across from Hutchison Farm) from 3:30 - 5 PM on April 19. The Hutchison Farm PTA receives 20% of all purchases! HFES Spirit Wear will also be available to buy. Please see flyer about PTA Spirit Week details.

We are currently working on the Performance Assessment that will be in place of the Virginia Studies SOL. We have two to do and we are currently working on our first one. Below are the dates for the other two SOLs. Please note these dates. The dates for our SOLs are as follows...

Reading - Thursday, May 6th

Math- Wednesday, May 19th

MAP Testing

It's that time of year again! The MAP Testing window is open and our class is scheduled to take the test in school once we are all back in the building. Our Reading MAP Test will be given on April 22nd and the Math test is scheduled for May 4th. If anything comes up and changes, I will let you know. Please make sure the students come well rested and have a good breakfast the morning of the tests.

Focus Areas for the Coming Week:

  • Reading:  We will continue preparing for the Reading SOL and learning different test taking strategies that can help them when taking any test.
  • Math:  We will continue with long division. We will divide three digits by one.
  • Social Studies:  We will begin the project portion of our Performance Assessment for VA Studies- From Agriculture to High Tech.
