Good Afternoon Parents,
Happy Friday! What a fun day it was! We started our day with a celebration to celebrate all the hard work and lessons the students learned through our Historical Fiction unit. Mrs. Lydic was able to join us and the students did a beautiful job presenting to her the lessons learned in this unit that will affect the person they want to be going forward. It was a difficult concept, but the students understood and was able to articulate it! I was so very impressed and proud of them!
FLE
We finished our last FLE lesson today. Thank you to those of you at home who logged on to join our class this morning. This completes our FLE lessons for the year.
Iditarod
This week Mrs. Gumbel shared some information with us about the Iditarod (including the fact that she actually attended it when she was 10 years old in Alaska!- How cool is that?!) The dog sled races were mentioned in the book club book Murphy, The Gold Rush Dog, so she thought it would be nice to show them that those dog sled races are real. In fact, the Iditarod is set to begin on Saturday, March 6th. She shared the website with the students on Thursday. Many wanted to track the race and watch parts of it. I am including the website below for anyone who would like to check it out! What a cool event!
Focus Areas for the Coming Week:
Writing: We will write about the recurring themes we have seen throughout our Historical Fiction unit.
Math: We will begin multiplying 2 numbers by 2 numbers and explore the different strategies we can use to help us solve those problems.
Virginia Studies: We will begin working through Chapter 4 - A Growing Virginia
