Weekly Update

Hello 4th Grade Families,

I was so excited to welcome your students back to in person learning this week! They did a really nice job of following the guidelines and wearing their masks. I know it's a challenge to have it on that long but they did really well. I was so proud of them!! It felt so good to be back in the school, working on actual papers and writing with pencils. The students agreed, and it was a really great week!

A few hybrid reminders

  • Please have your child bring an extra mask (in a labeled, ziploc bag)

  • A lunch (if not eating the school provided  free lunch)

  •  chromebook (fully charged)

  • Please remember to fill out the LCPS Symptom Checker before your student’s arrival.

  • Bring a snack- lunch is not until 1:10pm each day.

  • Breakfast is provided as well if the students want it. All they have to do is let me know upon arrival and it will be delivered to our classroom. Free of charge until the end of the year!

Asynchronous Day Work

  • Students will log on to our morning meeting (just as they have been through our class Schoology page) from 8:00-8:30.

  • Students will complete 60-90 minutes of independent work. This will be in their packet that they will receive weekly. This should be easier for them to navigate independently. It is important to me the students are actually writing and solving problems on paper and doing their work on their own. It is a little bit of normalcy. I have told the students that if they have a question about one of the questions, they are to circle the problem and bring it to school with them the next time they are in the building. Mrs. Higgins, Mrs. Gumbel or I will help them.

  • They should check off their work as they complete it on the weekly checklist attached to their packet.

Student Spotlight

Does your child have work he/she is really proud of? Maybe they would like to show off how hard they are working at home, or want to show how they are demonstrating the 3Rs. Upload a picture or short video of his/her work to share with the whole school! Images and videos shared will be featured on the Student Spotlight segments on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the morning announcements. Students may not be featured right away depending on how many submissions have been made.

Focus Areas for the Coming Week:

  • Writing:  We are studying Biographies and are going to begin working on our Famous African American project.
  • Math:  We will begin our unit on Multiplication and Division. **It would be beneficial for the students to have their multiplication facts memorized. Please be working on these at home to help them with this unit.**
  • Virginia Studies:  We will continue with  Chapter 2 of Virginia Studies- Virginia's First Peoples. We will cover that the American Indians lived all over the state, The English Settlers and  the three native languages spoken. The study guide for this unit went home this week. Test date TBD.

As always, please reach out with any questions or comments. I appreciate your support!
