Weekly Update

What a fun week it was last week! Thank you for all the cards and yummy treats! The students and teachers had a wonderful time celebrating Valentine's Day. Friday also marked the 100th day of school. I can't believe that we are closer to their 5th grade year, than we are from the start of 4th grade. Where has the time gone?!

Chapter 5 Assessment

We are wrapping up Chapter 5- The American Revolution. I have scheduled the assessment for Thursday, February 23rd. We will spend next week reviewing for it.

Number the Stars

As we begin our Historical Fiction unit, I realized that I left off one of the books we will read. We will also be reading the book Rose Blanche. I will read this book aloud to the class next week. This is a short picture book to support our unit.

Historical Fiction

You will see that we are going to begin our unit on Historical Fiction this upcoming week. We will read Number the Stars by Lois Lowry and Blood on the River by Elisa Carbone. I will be reading these books one chapter at a time to the class. If your student would like to bring in their own copy to read and follow along they are welcome to. Sometimes reading and following along helps keep them more focused and engaged. You can buy a copy from Amazon or rent one from the public library.

Focus Areas for the Coming Week:

  • Reading:  We will study Historical Fiction and read Rose Blanche and Number the Stars.

  • Math:  We will continue working on fractions

  • VA Studies:  We will review Chapter 5 - Revolutionary War. The test will be Thursday, February 23rd.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to a great week!

Weekly Update

Hello Parents,

I hope your weekend went well and you got to spend some downtime with your child! Please see below for some news and updates for the week ahead!

 Supplies

It’s hard to believe, but we have made it to the halfway point in the year! Please talk to your child and see if they need any new supplies. We have gone through quite a bit of our supply stockpile. We recently had to have a conversation as a whole about being responsible for our own things like glue sticks, pencils and crayons. Many students need new scissors, crayons, and markers. Please speak to your child and see if they are in need of anything. If so, could you please send those in with your child. If you are unable to, please reach out to me and I will make arrangements to get whatever supplies your child needs.

Kindness Spirit Week

As you have seen in Mrs. Smith’s Husky Update, we will be celebrating Kindness Week next week. To help celebrate we will be participating in spirit days. The schedule of events is below!

Valentine’s Day

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th. We will take the afternoon to pass out our valentines, watch a Valentine’s show and do some fun Valentine’s activities. If your student chooses to participate in the Valentine exchange, please make sure that they bring in a valentine for everyone. We will  make Valentine bags to put them in, but if your child wants to bring in a box or something from home to use, that is fine. The class list has already gone home.

Historical Fiction

Weekly Update

Good Evening Parents,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend! Sorry my post comes a little late, it was a very busy weekend for my family! My daughter had volleyball practice, my oldest son played in an All Star game, my little one had a basketball game and baseball evaluations, and I was lucky enough to be able to squeeze in one of my student's dance recitals! Needless to say, I didn't have much time to open my school bag.

I don't have much new news for you, but what I have is below.

Stuffed Animal Day:

We spun the wheel this past week for filling our Paw Chart. Since we had several students out last Friday, we decided to have stuffed animal day again! Your child is welcome to bring their stuffed animal on Friday, February 10th!

Focus Areas for this Week:

  • Reading:  We will begin researching and writing a biography on a Famous African American. Ask your child who they selected to research!

  • Math:  We will begin our unit on Fractions.

  •  VA Studies:  Continue Chapter 5- The Revolutionary War. The study guide went home last week.

As always, please feel free to reach out with questions and concerns.
