Weekly Update

 Happy Sunday Everyone!

We had a great hybrid week. We were able to get quite a bit accomplished. We are well in the groove now. The students did such a great job following all the rules and guidelines. It really was a wonderful week!

Make up FLE Lesson

Due to the snow day on Friday, February 19th, we missed our second FLE class. We will make up the lesson on Friday, March 5th. Students who are at home that day will need to log into our meet to attend the lesson from home. Our lesson is Friday, from 10:30am-11am. All students who have not opted out need to be logged in at this time for the lesson.

No School

Tuesday, March 2nd, is a Staff Development day for staff, so there will be no school for students. There is NO Morning Meeting on Tuesday!

Go Math Books

Please have your child bring their Go Math Book to school. We worked in them last week, and they will need to have their book to complete their work. Mrs. Gumbel was kind enough to make copies of the page for the kids who did not have their books, however, that is not an option every day going forward. Please ask your child if they had their book last week.

Student Spotlight

Does your child have work he/she is really proud of? Maybe they would like to show off how hard they are working at home, or want to show how they are demonstrating the 3Rs. Upload a picture or short video of his/her work to share with the whole school! Images and videos shared will be featured on the Student Spotlight segments on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the morning announcements. Students may not be featured right away depending on how many submissions have been made.

Weekly Update

Happy Friday Everyone!

We made it through another busy week. We have one more MAP test to go (the Math) and we will be done! YAY! I cannot wait to be back at school with the kids and the testing window behind us. I look forward to just being able to build relationships with them, learn and read. Here's to a smooth second half of the year!

RAZ Kids and Dreambox

Please make sure your child is completing their daily RAZ Kids and Dreambox lessons. We are finding that the students are not completing this each day as assigned. It is going to be imperative that they are working on them once we go hybrid since their instructional time on their asynchronous days is lessened. These programs provide practice on the skills we are working on and will get harder as your child progresses in the program.

Book Clubs

Today the students met with their book clubs for the first time. Mrs. Assadi and I were so proud of how well the students did. Most came prepared and it was evident that they had done the reading and notes beforehand as instructed. The students are going to meet with their group again on Tuesday. They need to read "chunk #2" by next Tuesday. Again, this is about 25-30 pages, depending on their specific book, so please make sure that they are reading a little each day (including weekends) to prepare. They have their assigned pages and chunks in their email.

Hybrid Supplies

As I am sure you heard, we are headed back into school starting February 16th. Your child will still attend school only on their designated two hybrid days. The other days will be asynchronous work in their packets as we did before. Please make sure your child has all the supplies needed to return to the classroom. Some students took home their Go Math Books, pencil boxes, and journals. If they did, please help them locate these things this week, so they can bring them back to school. We will be using them during instruction (yay for writing on paper and reading REAL books!) and we cannot share supplies.

Family Life Education

4th grade is the year Family Life Education begins. This will be taught by Christina Bearce, a Family Life Education Specialist from the county. Our class is scheduled to have FLE on Friday, February 12th from 9:30-10am and Friday, February 19th from 8:30-9am. Your child is expected to attend both sessions unless you have opted them out. Please read the attached FLE Family letter from Mrs. Bearce.

Reading: We will continue reading our book Blood on the River and study Historical Fiction. The students will also meet in their book clubs on Tuesday Morning.

Math:  We will use the regrouping method if multiplication to solve 2 digit by one digit problems. The students will incorporate story problems and estimation.  **It would be beneficial for the students to have their multiplication facts memorized. Please be working on these at home to help them with this unit.**

Virginia Studies:  We will be working through Chapter 3 - Jamestown! This is a long unit and contains a lot of information. The study guide will come home in your child's homework folder once we are back in the building.
